1/30/2024 0 Comments Skim coat concrete countertops![]() Most of the joints are held together with long trim screws (the same ones we used to attach the cabinets to each other). ![]() We cut our pieces and attached them to each other as we went, using clamps to hold the growing frame in place while we measured and cut. You don’t have to add anything for an overhang, because the trim piece will provide the overhang. Why is this important? Because when you’re measuring for your frame, you want to measure the exact outside dimensions of your cabinets. A true 1×2 is only 1.5″ thick, and our whole counter is 1.75″ thick - and it just so happens that half a 1×4 is 1.75″. *Edited : We cut a 1×4 in half, then cut the corner off. I suggest a bevel or chamfer (like we did), a round-over, or simply keeping the edges square. I suppose you could use any kind of decorative trim that you wanted, but keep it simple because the concrete will obscure any little details. I wanted a beveled edge on the counters, so we used a 1×2* with the corner cut off (a table saw or router will do it). The trim piece will cover the different layers that make up the countertop and give the Ardex a solid surface to stick to. Here’s an important detail to bring up now: you’re going to need a trim piece around the edge of your countertop, like so: Perfect.Īnd that’s the last time you’ll see me do math correctly in this post. Why? We wanted our counters to be one-and-a-half to two inches thick, and we used 1/2-inch thick OSB (to satisfy my need for “cheap”) and 1/2-inch thick cement backerboard (to satisfy Chris’s need for stability and water-resistance), so we had 3/4 inch to spare. ![]() There, didn’t that just get a lot easier? ![]() Helpful Hint #1: If you do not have pre-existing counters but you are NOT worried about strength and durability, you can simply buy a particleboard countertop - essentially a laminate counter that hasn’t been laminated yet. Oh, and if you haven’t guessed it, I call it Faux-crete because it’s not concrete all the way through. But I also have helpful hints along the way that you can do to make these even easier, if you aren’t encumbered by the same problems that I was. This tutorial is about how I solved those problems. He was also worried about cracking if water somehow got through and made the wood underneath swell. He was overly paranoid concerned that the concrete skim coat would crack if there was any flex in the countertops (especially our breakfast bar, which has a 12″ overhang). Chris was not sold on the durability or strength. These tutorials assume the pre-existence of countertops, albeit ugly ones.Only two little problems stood in my way. And then Jenny from Little Green Notebook used Kara’s skim-coating technique on her laundry room counters, and made it sound even easier. And Kara’s way required no special skills, like knowing anything at all about concrete. And we were over budget, and Kara’s way was cheap. And our basement was so full of kitchen stuff that I had no room to make concrete forms, and Kara’s way is done in place. And we were somewhere around the 6-month mark on our 3-month remodel, and Kara’s way was fast. And 10 months ago (back when I thought I was going to be totally awesome at DIY and the whole reno would take 3 months), I figured that I could handle making concrete countertops.īut then I found this little tutorial on using Ardex to skim-coat a wood countertop, over on Kara Paslay’s blog. Ummm, I hate laminate and I can’t afford stone or solid surface. And also why I keep calling them Faux-crete (I’m capitalizing it, it’s a word, patent pending). Wanna know how I made them? Okay!įirst let me tell you a little bit about why I chose Faux-crete counters. Hey guys! Remember those counters I showed you on Saturday?Īwww yeah. Or read about my attempt to refinish them here. Updates: I wrote a post about the durability of my Ardex counters around the 4-month mark, which you can read here.

Millie decides her family is more important than her clubs and Grace quits trying to hide in the past and embrace life again. Terri and Karen discover they like themselves and each other. Grandpa moves to a retirement village (he wasn't missing after all). They apparently had a falling out when they were teens. As time goes on, Karen starts to bond with Papa and even joins in the search when he turns up missing.Īs a result of the switch, Millie and Grace gain perspective and restore their friendship. She also discovers that Terri's mom is much more "hands on" than her own mother and doesn't like things to change. Her "best friend" Nicole Henderson ( Marnette Patterson) starts snubbing her and even tries to steal her boyfriend Chad Elkins (Hunter Garner), which causes problems for the couple. Karen's friends make fun of Terri and now are making fun of Karen, who discovers that her "friends" are very superficial. Terri's is a blue-collar family that runs an Italian deli. During the switch, Terri learns that Karen never stands up for herself to her mom who grew up in the neighborhood with Terri's mom, and is now a social climber. Tiffany (who is constantly telling " Knock-knock jokes") gets on Terri's nerves at first, but eventually, she comes to think of Terri as a "sister-figure", especially during a thunderstorm, which causes a temporary loss of power. As a result, Karen, when she was home had to take care of her little sister Tiffany (Kelsey Mulrooney), and now Terri is made to do it, despite having no babysitting experience or siblings of her own. Karen's family is quite affluent, but both parents work and are gone quite a bit. Under threat of expulsion, the girls and their families agree. Although she initially plans to have them sent to a work farm, Officer Smith instead tells them that the girls should switch lives for a while to experience the other girl's life even upon also noticing that both mothers act the same way toward each other. They also tend to be a short-lived fish, and most will only live two to three years in a home aquarium, though it’s not unheard of for some to live as long as four or even five years. With that being said, some have been known to reach sizes of 2.5 inches (6cm) and there have been reports of even larger ones. Zebra danios stay relatively small in the home aquarium, and most will only grow to around 2 inches (5cm) in length. Because of this, they are adapted to a wide variety of water types, and if given enough time to adapt, will thrive in most home aquariums. While many of the original zebra danios in the fish trade were wild-caught, nearly all the ones available now have been breed in captivity on fish farms. But their preferred habitat is usually water with a moderate amount of current. In the wild, they can be found in everything from fast flowing streams, to stagnant rice fields. They were originally found in the streams of India, Pakistan and several bordering countries, but have since spread as an invasive species in several US states. In addition to their attractive coloring and stripes, the zebra danio has a well-founded reputation for being a playful and curious fish and makes an excellent addition to almost any community fish tank. ![]() The zebra danio (Danio rerio) is one of the most iconic fish in the aquarium hobby, and many people have owned this interesting fish at some point in their lives. To exit an area, you just need to point your ship in the direction of a warp point that is always displayed on your HUD (unless that area has jammed your signal) and the only thing keeping you from constantly jumping to the next area is the fuel it takes to do so. Once in there, you’ll start mining, salvaging, and fighting to help make it to the next point on the map. As your character develops, you can earn the ability to detect environmental hazards from the map or you can see how deadly an area will be so that you can plot your course through space how you see fit. You choose each unique area on a diverging star map. You begin adrift in space, unaware of your history or your objective outside of your onboard computer pointing you towards a vague goal. What sets Everspace apart is in the fluidity of its controls and the effortlessness by which it executes on all of its disparate parts. Persistent character progression isn’t revolutionary by itself, however. The controls are also good enough on their own to be worth repeatedly starting your game from scratch. Like Rogue Legacy before it, Everspace allows each run (while randomized and unique) to be a stepping stone persistent character upgrades afford the mechanics room to grow and mature while also giving meaningful and satisfying additions along the way. For me, it was in the lack of any character progression in between runs that would always halt all momentum and fun I might have had. The genre’s regular trappings, procedurally generated areas and run-based gameplay loops, offer a different and interesting way to explore a game’s mechanics. For a while, it seemed like every game took some inspiration from the genre, which left behind a great deal of bland copycats. From here, we move to "Day of the Dead"-style territory, as the presumedly controlled threat shows that, in fact, it can't be tamed. This reflects the classic trope of a villain's plan backfiring, as Major West has kept Mailer to "try and understand them," not realizing he's quite literally kept the demise of his operation in his own backyard. Vastly outnumbered, Jim returns to save his friends using infected soldier, Private Mailer, to cause a distraction. This moment turns the assumptions of the zombie movie-loving audiences upside-down, because while it means the characters are stuck with the familiar isolation you expect to be present in post-apocalyptic tales, their situation is given the gut-wrenching twist: Jim is stuck in a living nightmare, and it takes only a look up to realize the rest of the world is ignoring it completely. 28 DAYS LATER (2002) FIRST TIME WATCHING MOVIE REACTION Popcorn In Bed 283K subscribers Join Subscribe 9.4K Share Save 152K views 3 months ago Enjoy my reaction as I watch 28 Days. 1/29/2024 0 Comments Ark silica pearls![]() If the player has fur armor and a flying mount, an easy place to obtain Silica Pearls is the frozen patches of the northwest coast.
